The electronics and hardware are partially sealed to protect them against humid air and indirect water exposure. You also should use these fans in areas where flooding is even a small possibility.
Places where a damp location fan might be installed include bathrooms, basements, covered decks, saunas and gazebos. Please note that damp location ceiling fans are not made for direct and/or constant water contact. For those situations, you will need a wet location ceiling fan.
